asbestos siding ?

i am a new home owner my home was made in the 50's and i have a question about what the garages exterior walls are made of they are thin , very hard and flat the exterior were just paint over top and cauked on the corners but they have large cracks. i need to replace but i think they might be asbestos siding. if so what would you replace them with. i would like to just in put up the new walls and paint is thier a safe product that can do this

Welcome to the forum

There are 2 types of asbestos siding. I'm only familiar with 1. They look something like a thin slate shingle. As long as asbestos is well painted it poses no health threat. I doubt you can buy replacement peices. 20yr ago masonite was making some siding that resembled this type of siding but I have no idea if they still do. If you do take any down just avoid busting them up causing any of the asbestos dust to get in the air. Hope this helps.
