Question door opener lubrication?

My garage door opener in on the fritz again. I probably need to replace it, but I need to visit MIL, so that will have to wait a few days. Until then I an either continue to manually open and close the door or I was wondering how to properly greese the chain, because I have a feeling that's what needs to be done.

The motor seems to be working fine. I've tightened all the screws, etc. and greased the wheels with silicone spray. Then I finally noticed that the chain isn't moving at all....duh, the chain must need to be greesed. I tried spraying it with silicone spray to no avail.

What is the proper way to lubricate the chain of a garage door opener?

Thanks,
e

What kind of door opener is it? If the motor sounds like it is running and the chain doesn't move then it's probably a stripped gear

When your chain does not move, this is not a good thing. Only 2 reasons. Either the chain is off the sprocket, which you can see, or the gear is stripped. My bet is with the gear. Good Luck.
