Garage door torsion springs and cables are generally not considered DIY repairs due to the inherit danger of injury. Many DIY'ers would tackle the job with no problems, but this is one of those jobs where if you have to ask there's a good chance you shouldn't be attempting it. Did one or both break or are you replacing them as preventive maintenance?

Your post references the cables, is that correct, You are not going to *mess* with the springs right?????? If the cables only then it can be done, but door must be fully open and it is now winter, and job can take a while. Will wait for your reply post.
