My Genie garage door opener is possessed

I have Genie Chain Glide opener, roughly 8 years old. A few days ago it starting turning the light on by itself. I can turn the light out with the control panel on the wall, but the opener will turn it on again ... but not necessarily right away ... maybe in 5 seconds, maybe in 2 minutes.

Otherwise, it seems to work fine. Any ideas? I'm guessing there is a weak solenoid involved, but figured I'd better ask for advice before I tear into it.

Thanks,
dogfood

Sounds like a control board problem. The remote is an intellicode system so other door openers are probably not the problem. Try calling Genie's tech support at 800-654-3643.

Control board may be an issue here, but probably not. Remove the wall button wires from the back of the wall control. Run the unit with your remote. Wait 10-15 minutes, if nothing happens, besides the light going out at roughly ~5 minutes, then you need a new wall control.
