? about garage door opener lights..
Hi All,
Just joined! Looks like the place to be... I have a queston about the work light on the opener. How long is it suppose to stay on when the door is open or closed?
Well, here's the deal.. When we bought this house the opener was already in service. But I've had to fix the gears and bought some light bulbs to see if they worked.
So they did, but they stay on and won't go off.
Would anyone have so insight on this...
The garage door opener is a Model #13953513 1/2 Hp
Sears Craftsman...
Thanks

Older operators used a thermal relay to activate the lights. Unplug the operator and locate the relay, it will look like three little mtal fingers that draw together when current is applied. They may be welded to together. Sometimes cleaning them with emory paper works. If it is a newer operator. The relay should be built into the control board. If it is bad, you may need to replace the board to fix.

On that model the light is controlled by the circuit board, unless you are an electrical engineer, you need to replace the circuit board.

The board with the relay that controls the lights is around $80.00 unless you can find one on e-bay. If you try e-bay make sure the model number is the same. You will find your model number on the end of the opener with all the white wires. It will look something like this: 41A4318-6A. The number and letter after the dash designate engineering changes so the higher the better.
