fire-proofing garage ceiling

fire-proofing garage ceiling

hi iliv in pa beach lake area the ins company told me i have to frire-proof the garage ceiling or am not cover if there a fire right now it just studs and joints all wood how do you fire proof when you open the garage door you only have about 1/4 space . dont know what to do plz help

If you really only have that much space, you may have to call a garage door company and find out what they can do about lowering the door. Quick turn brackets or a low headroom kit may give you more room.

Then you would have to install drywall on the ceiling according to local code.

It might be best to spend some money on an engineer to take a look at what you have, and what would need to be done to meet requirements.

what an engineer ???

no just drop down your g-door barackets code in ny is 5/8 fire rated sheet rock ,with 2 coats of spackle . but check with building inspector for that in youre town . you dont need much more room than you have just take g door down to do the rocking and reinstall the door to the new rock . engineer is a crazy wast of money you dont need an inspection just the insurance adjuster . good luck
