Installing a Garage Door in Brick

Hi,

We're looking to convert our converted garage back into a garage. The conversion was on a brick home and they simply inserted a window in the spot where the garage door was. We're wondering if this is something we can do ourselves. The opening looks untouched except for a brick base that was put under the window. Does anyone know if this is something we could demo and re-frame in or do we need someone with brickwork experience to do this?

Thanks!

Not a brick guy..but the framing you need may still be intact. Do you know if it was a finished(sheetrocked) garage before it was converted?

Not sure, but we're assuming not. The house is from 1956 and the remodel was done about 16 years ago. From what we can tell nobody knocked themselves out when doing stuff to this house. The room is currently paneled. Would tearing that off answer the question about the framing?

Yeah, you'll have to at least tear off around the door. I would imagine they just framed in the opening and then bricked it in.

Now, if they interwove the new brick with the old, it may be more complicated.
