garage door opener chain adjustment

I have a Stanley opener and the chain sags quite a bit lower than the guide rail. The chain actually rubs against the door as it comes back. There doesn't seem to be any type of tightening device on the chain/cable nor at the sprocket. Do I need to cut the cable and add in a tension device of some kind? Thanks for the advice.

There is a tightening device. However, it is not easy to see. It is a rod with nuts on each end. It may be inside of your channel, but it is near your sprocket. Follow your chain slowly. I am sure your chain is not continous. Where the two chain ends come together, is the tightener. Tightening chains is fairly common. I think without looking it up is 1/2" dip in your chain. If your chain is too long, you may find you have to take out a link.

noise problem

Hi, I live in a home that was built 1.5 yrs ago here in east central FL. There is a bedroom that is behind the garage where the water pump is that is very noisy. When the water is turned on in any other room or the kitchen, then there is so much noise in the bedroom that my brother (who occupies the room) cannot sleep. I am just very surprised how poorly designed these homes are. There is a dry wall behind the garage to his bedroom, but yet the sound is so high. Has anyone experienced this? converting a carport into a garage

The previous owners of my house converted most of the garage into a family room, leaving the original garage door and the first 8 feet of the garage intact (i.e, the garage door runs parallel to and about 8 feet from the wall separating the garage and family room). At the same time as the conversion, they built a carport that is attached to the house above the garage door. I'd like a real garage but want to keep the family room so I want to convert the carport into a garage and tie this into the existing 8-foot garage. A few questions: (1) Is it possible to salvage some of the carport and convert the structure into a garage or should I just rip it down and start from scratch? (at this point I'm thinking I could use the four 4x6s at the corners of the carport as a starting point for the garage) (2) This would be the biggest home improvement project I've ever tackled so does anyone have any suggestions for any reference material I could read to see how I'd go about a project like this and whether this is something I could reasonably expect to complete?
