Looking to built an over sized gambrel garage with finished upstairs.I believe the standard was 24 dollars a square foot.Am I in the ballpark? MOST important if I choose a contractor how do I check out their credentials I.E. are they bonded ,insured, quality of work.Should I get a completion date in writing? In other words with your knowledge how should I go about;just as if you, yourself was hiring someone to do the job. Thanks PDF. Have a great and safe HOLIDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"$24 per square foot" seems awfully low. Depending on how much finish work would be involved, and how much, IF ANY, of the job the contractor might be willing to leave for you, I think you could double that number and probably be closer. And, depending on where you are and labor rates in that area, tripling it might not be out of the question. Best way to find out would be to ask a couple of local contractors. To check out license, bonds, insurance, etc., call your state's Contractors Licensing Board. And, before you select a contractor, ask for references AND CHECK THEM OUT!!

Tell me how big you want your garage to be, and how many car doors, and I will give you a pretty good estimate.
