Anybody cover a Boxtruck body to make it not like a Boxtruck body?

I have a perfectly wonderful NTM, tractor...

I also have an 18' truck body, like this one, at my shop...

There is No Way my wife is issuing me a Building Permit to plant a naked truck body at home, so I must design/build a 'facade' that will make it look like actual Saltbox construction... as you are driving by. I would place it on the edge of a wood line about 200' from the house. I have an extra well and electricity at that location. I thought about doing it on 3-sides only..

Any input would be welcome. Thanks.

Hello there,

Sorry but your post doesn't make any sense at all!
Are you using local terms?
Wiki tells me what salt box could be but are you planning to live in it to need power and water?

I must be missing something.

Paint the truck black then fasten extra tall 1X6 fence pickets to it. Let them run down to within 2" of the ground. You could put the pickets an inch apart to save materials and because of black most people just glancing wouldn't notice anything behind. It would just look like a tall fence.

Sorry Greg... it's just a shed to house the tractor. I happen to have both an extra well we use for garden watering down by the house ..and the 110v up there to run it. I cannot use garage space for it, so I thought I'd put a cutesy shed 'up the lane'..

Ray the picket idea isn't bad .. but standing out there it would look like an Drive-in Theater .. I'd have to figure out a way for it to have continuity. It's plunk in the middle of 25ac, so there's no reason to screen off the woods... 'cpet maybe to hide a plane crash..

Digging around, this is probably what I will do .. without the bottom and only 3 sides.

When Spring comes, I'll post some pictures. I appreciate the input. Thanks.

Jim: what does the picture of the shed have to do with the box truck bed? Why not build a tractor shed, since you obviously have talent enough to build this one. If you have a truck, why not leave it as a truck to transport things?

Larry...actually..he said he had the body...not the truck. I'd be surprised if the tractor would fit easily? One mistake and BOOM!

Why not just one of those tubing and aluminum panel carports?

Oooh, yeah, and leveling the body so you could drive in it would be a bear, and like you say, one errant touch of a control and goodbye side panel. With the carports you can take the metal all the way down the sides if you want total coverage. With a little work, you can work the siding on the ends as well. Not sure if doors are an option, but hard framing would allow for it, I guess.

Guys... I have two of those double-ports at my shop, but they're not going to pass inspection at home. My shop is zoned industrial and looks like the set of Sanford & Sons, but my home is different. I look at the tractor as part of the property ..and the building it is in, as part of the sale - when that time comes. The prospective She looks at the kitchen/baths .. He gets a 'real' tractor.

I didn't frame this saltbox up -snip'd that off a UK site- but wanted to show what I think I will do. The body came off the truck years ago and I have been using it as storage for 10+yrs. It is clean and dry inside, even after all this time.. That's why I figured it would make a good container for the tractor.

I'll keep you posted. Thanks.

Jim
