Wayne Dalton torquemaster winding spring end

I replaced the black plastic winding spring ends with metal ones. The left one unscrews when I wind the spring. What can I do to keep it threaded on the spring? Thanks for any help.

I have viewed this before. It doesn't seem to show them having any trouble with the spring end coming unscrewed from the spring when they wind the spring. To me, the spring end should be threaded the opposite way so it stays tight to the spring when you wind it.

just to be clear you replaced the spring cone only?

i know very little about the door but it sounds like to me the spring is being wound the wrong way.

Yes. I only replaced the spring ends. It seems to me that it is being wound the wrong way too. But that is the way they are designed to wind. Not a very good design to me.

When we replace torquemaster systems we upgrade them to standard torsion spring setups. The torquesmasters are real crap. You would need two 1" end bearing plates, one center bearing plate, a 1" shaft, two drums and the correct size pair of springs. your local garage door dealer should be able to get you the correct parts and a little advice.
