Garage door springs

I need to replace my springs. I know I have to weigh the door ( 9 x 7 ). What I don't know is - once I have the weight, do I split that between the 2 springs, or do I get each spring rated for that weight.....in other words......

If the door weighs 200 lbs. do I get 2 x 100 lbs. springs, or do I get 2 x 200 lbs. ?.

Thanks.

Look on the outside of the springs.
There should be a color code right on the spring that will tell which one to buy.

IIRC...and it's been a while...if the door is 200...you get two springs rated at 200. Pretty sure it says on the package/label.

If you buy a 2 pack at HD, Lowes or similar...the instructions are pretty clear.

If you use two springs and your door weighs 200 pounds, then you will need two springs rated at 100 pounds each. Here is a real good web site with tons of great info:

Standard Garage Door Torsion Springs

I have ordered springs from them as well, good and quick service.
