Are crossties still needed?
I have a pole barn (24Lx14Wx20H) that I just put a loft in that covers the back half of the garage. At the top of the walls where the rafters intersect there are 2x6's crossties set at every other rafter which are 24" OC.
My question is, can I move the ones that are over the loft up closer to the roof peak?
The cross-ties are there for 2 reasons, to keep the walls from falling out and the roof from collapsing in and since one of those needs has been eliminated because the loft now holds the walls together, is there a reason I can't move them up and make them 5-6 feet long to support the pitch of the rafters?
Thanks in advance for your time.

I think we'd need pictures or a framing blueprint to answer that question for sure. We have good imaginations but can't picture how you built the loft or which direction it runs without something more to go on.
