Need Help identifying a part

I have an overhead garage door, and there are 3 vertical sections, one in the center, and the other 2 halfway between the center and the track.

Each section is made up of 4 "beams", each beam is connected to the next beam by a hinge. The beams are 21" long by 2.5" wide, by 1 3/8" thick with a flat section on each end to connect to the hinges.

I need to replace one of the "beams"...anybody have a part number, or even a name for this metal piece I can search for?

Thanks in advance!

Maybe post a picture. I've ready your description several times and can't for the life of me picture what part you are trying to describe. Otherwise, look on the sides of your overhead door for a sticker or mfg. name.

Welcome to the forums.

I agree.... a picture would be a big help. http://www.doityourself.com/forum/el...rt-images.html

If you can't post a picture.... go to google and do an image search for "garage doors"

Pete's picture helped... the way you worded the 3... and then the 4 confused me. Each panel section has 3, but when you stack them all together there are 4, one on top of the next.

Is this what you're looking for?

You really should make sure you get these from the right mfg. in case they have their own style of bracket.

I don't think it's a reinforcement bracket he wants. I believe he means the short pieces of frame material that connect the top and bottom of each panel. You know, the part that so often gets ripped off/damaged when an opener isn't attached correctly? Stile? Mullion?

In most cases these are not replaceable as they are crimped and/or glued to the door. I doubt you'll find any place to sell you one even if they are available.

Normal procedure is to replace that panel or jury rig some repair (which is unsafe).

Mmmm, could be. I guess he didn't say which one needed replacing, i was just picturing a bent up bracket where the garage door attaches.
