Add awning to protect firewood to garage

Hi - I have my firewood stocked up on one of my garages exterior walls and I'd like to build a small roof to keep the rain off. I probably only need to project 2-3 feet at the most.

Any suggestions for how to approach this? It's on my barn/garage and doesn't have to be fancy. I wanted to stay away from asphalt singles since I have no experience with that or building roofs before.

#1, No way would I want any wood that close to a building!!
It's a termite and other bug magnet.
Google woodshed plans.
Build something out away from the garage.

I somewhat agree with Joe. Though termites aren't near the problem here that they are in other areas, I wouldn't lay out a buffet for them if possible. Now, if the garage is all block, not really an issue.

Do a search for woodshed (as suggested) or garbage can storage ("images" will bring up lot's of ideas). I'd build it out of all treated framing members and elevate the floor off the ground, and keep it away from the garage by at least a yard or more.

Btw, shingles are pretty easy compared to framing up the structure and attaching it to the garage wall.

At my previous house I had a wood pile up against my garage. We don't have much of a termite problem here but we DO have carpenter ants. Found the ants had a nest in a tree next to the house but never found any in the wood pile. What I DID find in the wood pile were spiders and slugs and the paint on the garage wall got pretty beat up.

Awning

Tell us how the garage wall is constructed.

Is it framed and covered with siding or is it masonry?

Or some other construction method?

The answers will determine how the awning is fastened to the wall.
