No steel angle for brick lintel??

I have a friend that has asked me to look at some home repairs on his house. There has been no angle steel support installed for a brick lintel over his 18 foot garage door. The brick is now sagging at Centerpoint over 2 in and is only supported buy a to buy and the garage door sealant trim. How could this have been missed on an inspection? And due to the fact that it was missed is anybody at the inspectors office for the county liable for this not being caught and should/could they be held responsible for repairs?

Yes. It would be nice to find someone to blame but unless the house is under a year old, there is no builder to go back on.

Inspectors are very rarely held liable for anything, and even if they are the limit is their fee. Inspectors can't see everything.
