Legacy 496 garage door motor

Motor moves chain about 6 inches-forward and backward- can't override by holding down wall button as you can with blocked sensor

Care to give us a clue what you're talking about or should we guess what a 496 motor is and used for? I'm thinking a Chevy Vortec big block.

Title corrected and thread moved to garage door forums.

The first thing you need to do is to unlock the door from the drive and see if the opener works correctly without the weight of the door.
