do I need to caulk here?

I'm scraping off some peeling paint at the bottom of the garage door jamb. I notice there is a 1/4" gap between the wood jamb and the concrete. The wood actually sits below where the top of the cement is and the is a narrow channel there where water can sit if it were to rain heavily

. Should I caulk this gap before I paint? Thanks.

It would probably be better to caulk it than not to caulk it. Wood sucks up water from endgrain like a straw, so any caulking that keeps water out is usually a good thing. I'd use a concrete joint caulking... after you prime the bare wood.

Hi, it may also be a good idea to under cut with an oscillating tool to keep that wood out of the water all together.
