Garage door opener model with shorter rail for one-piece door?

I'm ready to finally install an opener on my one-piece garage door ... all the ones I've looked at so far are intended for a sectional door, which come much further into the garage than does a one-piece door, and so have a very long rail (~9 feet). I'd rather not have the motor sticking out in the middle of the garage any further than necessary, so I'm curious if anyone knows of models that have a shorter rail, or that can easily have their rail shortened. I like the idea of belt drive, but I understand that it can't be shortened (true?). It suppose it should be possible to shorten a chain?

None that I know of unless you cut the rail down your self, and belt drives aren't to easy to reconnect once the belt has been cut. How tall is you door and how much sticks outside when the door is open?

It's seven feet tall and when it's up I'd say five feet are inside and two feet are outside (it's on E-900 hardware).
