Opener switch voltage
My daughters GDO is dead. I'm trying to help her troubleshoot by phone. It is a Genie 3/4 hp worm drive. It has power at the power head and we want to check for power at the switch. The switch is a SPDT toggle. Does anyone know what voltage to expect?

It's the switch to open the door from inside the garage. It's not a push button but a common SPDT wall switch. That's what was there when she bought the house 20+years ago. I've told her how to check the switch and wiring continuity but if that checks OK my next step would be to check the door opening switch voltage at the power head. I'm assuming it's somewhere between 12- 24 VAC but I would like to be sure.
She said that the remote is also inoperative so I suspect the opener is toast but we're just trying to eliminate everything easy.

An SPDT wall switch would be a three way switch. I've never seen one used on a door opener before.
What if you accidentally left it up..... does it keep the board engaged ?
There really is no set control voltage used. Many use 24vac because there is a 24v relay in use.

My daughter described the switch as the same kind that controls the lights in her house. She took the cover off and said it has 1 black terminal and two brass. One of the brass terminals has no wire attached. That sounds like a SPDT switch. Why it is used for the GDO is a puzzle. She bought the house new and swears that is the original switch.
In any case the switch is OK. I think she is going to replace the opener.
