Epoxy Floors

Hello,

I have an older garage without a floor drain. During the winter snow from my tires melts and leaves a lot of water in the garage. I use a squeegee on the floor, but I feel that it still leaves a lot of water behind.

I was trying to think of a way to minimize the water that the concrete is absorbing. I thought about buying an epoxy kit to cover the floor. However, I read that epoxies tend to flake/chip. I also thought about buying large rugs that are designed specifically for garages.

How do you guys deal with this? Do you have experience with epoxies? Is there a specific one you recommend? Do garage rugs absorb watee well? Are there any issues with them?

Ive had ,y garage covered for about 5 years now and love it.

Mine was professionally installed, the secret to a successful application is having a virgin floor meaning they need to come in and sand the floor down before applying. Installing over a dirty floor will fail. Have to be carful, a wet epoxy floor is extremely slippery, they put down tons of sand and flakes on mine which helps.

 

An old floor, especially one that has had years of salty water soaked into it is not a good option for epoxy coating. A good epoxy floor is VERY dependent on the prep work which is why a proper epoxy floor is so expensive. I don't think your floor is a good option because of years of salty water soaking in.

I would either just live with it like you have been. Or, look into the large garage floor vinyl mats you roll out. Or, you can look at click together plastic garage floor squares.
