Is it okay

About 3 weeks ago I planted a 2 foot tall Leyland Cypress tree. I have been watering it pretty regularly, but have noticed that some of the bottom leaves, only on one side are turning brown. Is the tree telling me it is dying or is it have some other problem that I can help it out?

Hi Martin,

You don't have your location and zone filled in, so I'm going to take a guess that you are in the drought area of the country. You may be watering too much. You say "regularly" but I'm not sure what that means. Water deeply when the top inch of the soil under the mulch is dry. This is usually needed once a week, but check to see. Watering deeply will encourage the roots to go deep into the soil and the tree will withstand drought better when it matures. You will need to do this for about a year.

Hope this helps,
