Raised flower beds against house and siding

How do you build a raised flowerbed that needs to go over the sill level of the foundation and over aluminum siding?

What do you put against the house to stop the soil from touching the siding and causing problems with the foundation?

Help?

Smile Raised beds

Hi crzdbukeye, Welcome to the DIY Garden Forum

I moved your post the last time, because I thought your needed pest control help.

What I think will help, is some type of this plastic garden devider material that will keep the dirt away from the house it's self.

Tell me more about how big how high and just what you want in a raised bed garden.

Is a ground level garden a bad idea, if so why? Can the garden have a space between it and the house?

Let us know, I'm sure someone has done this before.

I will talk with you later, Marturo

The raised beds around the house do not have to be extremely high. Probably just 6-7 inches but that takes them over the sill and against the siding.

I want to do it to get the slope away from the house. I don't really have the option of grading the area since the house is becoming the lowest point in the yard due to settling etc.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Smile Raised beds away from house.

Hi crzdbukeye,

I see the problem. You don't have to bring the dirt up against the house. There are many different plastic or metal deviders you can use at the back between House & Garden.

Then you can use white stone 3/8 to 1/2 inch to provide a fill that will stay dry and prevent the problems that are caused by dirt contacting the siding. You dig the plastic in at least 12" & leave enough above ground to stick up at least 4" above the soil in the raised bed. What had tou planned on using in front to keep the dirt raised? Wood, cement blocks, plastic devider etc.

As far as the drainage goes. Is there a lower area that you can put in a French drain, & allow the water to run away from the house?

Have you done any searches on www.google.com to get some ideas from what others have done? Sometimes you can find others who have solved your same problem, by looking at different designs.

Any suggestions on the search words... I've tried a lot of different combos without much luck. Sorry to be such a pain.

Smile Searching

Hi crzdbukeye,

No pain, here at DIY that's what were here for is to help each other learn

I have used a lot of search engines & Google.com is my Favorite because they keep all the old info as well as the new.

The less you put into a search the more you get back. I know that sounds backwards but it's true.

Try flower bed, raised beds, don't use things like ( Where can I find information about raised flower beds ) It will search every word.

Does something like, I suggested putting white stone between the siding & the plastic devider sound like something you want to try?

What part of Ohio are you in? I lived in Galion, Johnsville & Marion for awhile. Had some Big Deer eat our sweet corn down to the ground one year

Another place to try is www.gardenguides.com they have some intresting Pictures over there in their Photo Galery. Well worth a look
