Fern Tree

Hello again,

I am currently reduing my landscaping in
the front of my house. Unfortunately for
the last 2 years, there has been nothing
in that area but a dirt patch. I want
to do everything myself for personal gratification
and am wondering if anybody had experience
or suggestions when it came to tropical
settings. I currently live in the bay
area in California and am looking for some
plants that can bring a tropical flavor.
I currently have a queen palm and pygmie
day palm as well as a large trumpet vine with that adds purple andbright red color to my area. I have also reseeded a patch of grass and it
is taking very nicely. Fern trees sound interesting to me, however is there a short tree/bush fern out there that wont get too large. I am totally up to suggestions if anybody would
like to respond with types of plants as I
am a total idiot when it comes to these things.

Thanks everybody for your time.

Mike

of you are so kind to assist with plant/flower
suggestions.

I always thought red, white and pink oleander was a neat looking tropical plant. The Spanish Bayonet can provide shade with a tropical look.

Local nursery information

I have found that the local nursery folks can give some keen insight into how many plants perform in the area.

Our climate is much different from merely 50 miles south of here. Some plants bloom much later here and are not evergreen over the distance. So much so that asking someone south of here a question can lead you astray.
