Soil Level around trees ??
I recently built a raised planter from Winsor Rock. Inside the planter is an established Yoshiito Cherry tree (about 10 feet tall, 3 inch diameter). Once I fill in the planter with soil, the top of the soil will be 2 to 6 inches higher than before (the planter is cut into a small hill). I'm concerned if I raise the soil line around the base of the tree to be level with the rest of the planter, I will damage the tree. Should I be concerned about this? Any other suggestions of what I could do? I live in Northeast Atlanta, GA.

I agree with Chris, however having said that, I had a 30 year old silver maple in the way of a berm I wanted to create. Went ahead and brought the soil up about 2 1/2 feet around the tree. That was about 5 or 6 years ago. So far, haven't noticed any effect on the tree. I only did it though, because I didn't care if I lost the tree.
