Rose Pruning

I have discovered a wild rose bush next to my house. I pruned all of the dead branches off of it as well as cut back some of the longer (up to 12 foot) branches.

Does anyone know how much I should prune the branches? Should I cut them back past all of the leaves or leave the leaves on?

Any resources online that anyone knows about for rose care?

Thanks

Smile Wild Rose.

Hi, akasper

Sounds like you're no stranger to Rose's. I have done as you have, on Florabundas & Multifloras, + I just kept the long canes cut back for mowing.

I have some stickers in both hands, from some yearling wild Roses I came across, while hand weeding the Raspberry rows. So they will spread around, & drop somewhere covered in Bird poop LOL.

Check in the Useful Garden Links Sticky, & see if the American Rose Clubs URL, or some other Rose links are there now.
