Hi. My mom has an awesome red maple. I would like some on my property.I was at the nursery and they were $45-$90. My moms is so big she has to prune it back.Is there a way i can start my own tree off of the prunings?Or is there another way to do it?Thanks

Smile Starting the Red Maple

Hello ochrisl Welcome to DIYs Garden Forum

You can start the Red Maple by Asexual propagation however you will lose one verry important thing, the Tap root. Trees like Maples need a strong tap root for stability.

The link I have found for you describes growing the Red Maple in great detail. Unlike some Maples Fall is your target for collection. Since you want some trees for yourself you may consider starting more than you need & offer them for sale in a few years.

Maples have a high germination rate so only one per 3 inch pot is needed. Good luck with your DIY project, not only will you save money but you can make a little money, to pay for your time & materials as well
