Unhappy Weeds in Ivy

Our new home has a great deal of Ivy. After a few months we have noted the growth of a fair number of weeds in the Ivy beds. Is there anything to spray on the Ivy that will kill the common weeds, but not impact the Ivy. If there is a product, when is the best time to apply it?

Thanks in advance.

Pulling the weeds is NOT an option. It would take ten men, ten months to complete that task.

As with grass, healthy ivy will thrive and crowd out weeds. Ivy needs to be trimmed and fed periodically to be at its best. Mulching the beds will help control weeds. There are some products available to control grassy weeds in landscapes. Ortho makes such a product. Before spraying it on your ivy, read the label as to what it will kill and what it will not kill. Selective herbicides may not kill all the weeds. Some pulling may be necessary to gain inroads against the invasion and establishment of some weeds.

Here is a site dedicated to ivy.

Hope this helps.
