Mulch (requirements?)

Hello-
I've been talking to a couple of people about the problems with mulch. I want to put red mulch around my house but I've heard that mulch is prone to fungus which can attach to siding and is horrible to remove.
Also, I know there are a few different types of mulch to buy such as triple ground. What is the best.
Thanks,
Ed

I believe that what you are hearing about is called artillery fungus.

Using composted mulch can help. It seems to thrive more in damp mulch. Bark mulch seems not to be prone to supporting this fungus.

Around here, the double or triple ground mulch has been partially composted.

Hope this helps.
