bark falling off of pecan trees

i have bark falling off of pecan trees. i pulled some of the bark off and found some little spiders, they are very small and have red bodies. There is also a lot of moss on these trees. i was told that the problem might be stress from dry weather, but we have had a mild and wet winter and spring here in south texas. thanks from any help.

do you have webbing in the tree? you just loosely described spider mites. im not aware of them attacking trees though. they usually are found on our annuals, especially marygolds. try your local forrestry dept. they will come out and visit your site and diagnose for free. at least they will here.
