ivy/vines grow back?

Just cleaned up a big area in front of my house. pulled out a lot of overgrown shrubs and bushes. the person who planted them used ivy as ground cover. not sure if it really is ivy-long long pieces that grow all over and around everything. correct me if i'm wrong. question is, we pulled most of it out by hand, is it going to grow back, or should i do something else to make sure they are dead?

Thanks.

in my opinion it will come back from rhizomes[under ground roots]. to me the best way is to dig up or till the area and physically sift thru the soil and remove the rhizomes. its labor intensive, but effective.

And when the new growth returns, spray it with roundup. Keep after it until it dies.
