Garden Phlox turning yellow

Just planted some gorgeous garden phlox about a week or so ago. Threw some peat moss in before I planted them and gave them plenty of water after planting. The bottom leaves are starting to turn yellow. Anyone know what causes this and how to correct - or is it normal for these?

Thanks

Some leaves are normally lost after transplanting. Does the rest of the plant look healthy?

Too much peat moss can make the soil soggy, giving the plant wet feet.

Phlox

Hi Bogey,

Phlox likes plenty of moisture but not soggy soil. My Phlox does the same thing in wet weather. I don't know how you prepared the soil, but if you have heavy clay soil and added peat you may not have adequate drainage. Leaf blight can also be a problem with phlox.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the reply Wilson. The plants seem to have made it through so far. Is there something I should look for/do to contain leaf blight? I have been picking off the blooms as they die away (deadheading?) - is that the correct thing to do?
