Yellow Leaves

Last year I planted a row of simon poplars as a wind break. They all seem to be doing well (they have grown 6-7 ft) except a lot of them have yellow leaves. Unsure what is causing it, lack of nitrogen, iron??? I have given them some fertilizer, but I am afraid of burning them. What kind and how much is the correct amount?

Thanks,

abkent

How many yellow leaves as a percentage of the canopy? Where are these leaves? Upper tips, lower tips, lower small limbs?

90 to 95%. Almost all the branches. Out of the 12 planted probably 9 look this way.

When I watered them last night I notice several of them had roots that had been exposed where the soil had settled. Could this have any thing to do with it?

Roots are supposed to be underground.

I would call an arborist and have these trees examined immediately. There is no time to waste while you try to figure it out. This is apparently a systemic problem of grave proportions.

These trees will surely die if nothing is done now.
