My wisteria is being eaten!!!!!!!!
My family has a wisteria plant growing in the backyard, yet we've noticed that it is being eaten by something. We sometimes see little ants crawling on the plant. Does anybody have any ideas of what I can use to get rid of whatever is eating my wisteria???

I asked this question of my County Agent by e-mail for you:
"Do Wisteria have any serious Pests or Diseases?"
No, there is no particular pest that is particularly damaging to the Wisteria.

You see I have lived on 3 Farms all had Wisteria, & nothing ever ate it until Topaz came along. Topaz Daughter of Amber I, She would put anything into her mouth including a few Wisteria Beans.
She was a large Golden, & got so sick we had to give her Charcoal powder by capsules, & in a few days she got better. After that we just cut off all the pods each year so Kids, & pets would not be harmed.
I'm sorry
I am not being too helpful but I can not see what the damage looks like or what persentage is damaged. From all I have seen, & learned of these wonderful flowers the Wisteria is dangerious to small Children, & pets.
However if you take a Hose set the head to Jet, & wash the plant off you will knock off a lot of insects just from hard water. Sometimes Ants mean you have Aphids but the Wisteria is so toxic I have never seen any on the tips of this plant.
Maybe someone has had something eat their Wisteria, & will respond.
