Fig trees

Hi this is my first time, I just purchased a house and want to fulfull my dreams and one is to plant a fig tree. I live in Central New Jersey, what kind should I buy. I would like suggestions: in a container or planted along my south wall near the house. How close?
Thanks so much

Here is a good, general site on figs.

It appears that NJ shares the same sort of hardiness zones as Texas, where this article originates.

I have turkey fig trees here. They take plenty of room. After heading them back in the winter, I still have trees 30 feet across. These have been in the ground for a couple of decades.

Hope this helps.
