Hi,
I have 2 Palm small Palm trees (5' high) in my front yard that were here when we bought the house. They don't look like they have been taken care of and are not doing well. I would like to put them into planters. How do I go about doing this?? I have never dug out a tree before and don't know if I need a professional to do this..
Thanks,
greenda4

do you know what type of palms they are? where are you located?
most palms dont need much root ball to survive. we once dug a date palm up for a construction project and let it set on top of the ground for 3-weeks, replanted and it was fine. pretty tough plants. they have a very fiberous root system and are very prolific root growers.
a five foot tree will, however ,be heavy. will take two people to lift i would think.

I am not sure what species of Palm I have the leaves are pretty curvy. I am in San Diego, CA. I dug the tree out myself and put it into a planter with some mulch and soil. The tree was not heavy at all. Maybe 20-30lbs. When I pulled it out it broke of from the balled root. Maybe 3 in. from the ball root. Will it still be okay??
