Flower questions

Bless my lucky stars - the previous owner of my house was a retired garden club president. Each spring and summer the entire perimeter blooms but then the flowers die (obviously). My question is...the books say to let the flowers die back naturally -but then it looks so ugly! What can I do to make the dead flower beds not look so barren? (Keep in mind - we are talking about the ENTIRE PERIMETER) Sincerely, A City Gal

Some flowers you do let die back, some you dead head and some can be trimmed back. What kind of flowers are we talking about? You can use ferns (in shade) or filler plants to disguise the other.

Whether you are digging up the dirt or busy being crafty, do it until your heart is content. And remember, together, we can do just about anything.
