We live in S.C. and would like to do our own well...we have been told you can do it with a spearhead and a hose, because of the sandy soil and close water. Need a little more detail on how we go about it...we have a pump already.

Cool

If your ground water is as high as it is here in Eastern NC, you can wash down a well like this. Get two 10' lengths of 1/2" pvc pipe, an elbow and a collar, fittings to go from the elbow to a water hose adaptor. Get three 5' lengths of 1-1/4" pipe and a 4' 1-1/4" well point, and collars (and teflon tape) to put them together. Use the first 10' length of pvc to wash out a well hole large enough for the 1-1/4" well pipe, put the other 10' on with the pvc collar and wash it down 20'. Assemble the well pipe/point and wash it down the hole. Hook up hand pump to well pipe and hand pump out sand until you get clear water. Hook up check valve to well pipe (to hold your prime), and hook up pump to check valve. This should comnplete the suction side. Rig the discahrge side to your hose bibb, and you should have it. I'm not a plumber, and if you have any problems, just come back in here and ask. Good Luck!

I'm not a plumber, but this works for me (we also hand-drive them here, but a wash down is MUCH easier),and if you have any problems, just come back in here and ask. Good Luck! Edit: Oops! Didn't mean to send this twice. Thought I was just correcting all of my typos. LOL
