Gourds

I was given and planted some mixed gourd seeds in my garden this year. Now I have beautiful 6" yellow gourds with green bottoms. They will make great decorative pieces . . . but how do I harvest them? I saw something that said wait until they are dry, the vine and all. Can I pick them now, and will they last? Thanks!

YOU CAN PICK THEM NOW. BUT ALLOW THEM TO DRY IN A
DRY WARM AREA. YOU WILL KNOW THAT THEY ARE DRY
WHEN YOU CAN SHAKE THEM AND HEAR THE SEEDS RATTLE.
