Question Fall Onions??

A client gave me a clump of what she called fall onions. I just dug a hole and set them out and now they have spread all over. Can I harvest as edible onions? When? What are they good for? green, slicing or what? Are they fall because they are harvested then? or is it because they fall over when the seeds get heavy on top? Thanks for any help.

I would have to know specifics... Tops or bulbs spreading? You may be able to dig them up and find out what size they are.

Good Luck!

Fall onions is a matter of planting onions in the fall. They do better in the cool weather for harvest in late spring. Letting them go to seed wastes the energy of the plant to produce the seed.

The heat of summer is hard on onions, so the cool growing season works best.

Hope this helps.
