I have a man made pond that is made from an old pool liner. The pond turns very very green within a couple of weeks. I have tried over the counter remedies but its not working. Any suggestions?

Several questions come to mind. A pond must be balanced. This refers to the ratio of fish, snail, and pond plants to water volume. Do you have a balance of fish, plants, snails, etc. based on your pond size? Is there a pump/filter? Is the pond in full sun? How deep is the pond? A pond in full sun that is too shallow will overheat in a hurry. How large? My suggestion would be that you talk to your local pond people who sell fish and pond plants. If you have none in your area check out Better Homes and Gardens magazine for ads for companies which sell such. They usually have full page, full color ads so are easy to find. They have much information regarding the problem you are having and are quite helpful. Also, check your local library. There are many books on the subject and are easy and detailed for beginner and experienced alike. Our pond would occasionally flush green but not for long. We had fish, snails, plants, pump, and waterfall (for aeration).

A pond, newly filled, will flush green. Get it balanced, see above, and you should be alright.

Marsden,
If you a u.v. sterilizer. I can guarantee that you will never have an algae problem. You will first have to empty out your pond then re-fill it. They range from $100 to
$300. Check your local pet shop.
