I grow some very pretty "dinner plate" dahlias but I have trouble supporting them when they get tall. I am looking for some ideas on keeping them upright when. I have tried tying them to tall stakes but either the stakes pull out or the plant looks like it has been tied to stake instead of looking naturally tall and pretty.

What am I doing wrong?

I use three or four ring tomatoe cages to support dahlias. The cages(no matter how tall they are)are too short for my tomatoes. But I like them for many perennials. They do look stupid when I first plant the tubers but in a month or so the foliage covers them. Seems to support the flowers gently but strongly. Hope this idea helps.
