We just moved and the yard has a almond tree but I don't know how to process the almonds so we can eat them. Does anyone know what to do with almonds so they are eatable? Also does a apricot tree need to have another apricot tree to produce fruit?

Hi there:

Second question first. Some apricots require a pollinizer and some don't. Jannes requires a pollinizer also Perfection. Tilton does not.

If the tree is producing fruit at a level you can comfortably use then I would not worry about trying to identify the variety and/or providing a pollinizer for it.

Almonds - Nuts should be harvested when those in the center of the tree are ripe. Nuts which fall to the ground before regular harvest time should be cleaned up daily to prevent disease.

After harvesting, shell and dry the nuts. The kernels should be spread for drying in a shady location until the meat is crisp. Kernels can be stored in airtight jars and kept in a cool place.
