Tree/Shrub Removal

Hello,

Our home has four large evergreen shrub-trees that are far too large for the front of our home. The shrubs were there before we bought the home, and they actually seem to be more like trees. We want to remove them, but we're not sure where to start. Also, once they are removed, we don't know how to repair the area where they've been (the big holes that will be left.)

Here is a picture of the home front:

Thanks for any help.

Yep, way too big. Just cut them down and cut them up for disposal. When you dig out the rootball or stump, knock off as much dirt as possible. When you have it all out, fill the remaining space in the ground to bring the soil to the correct level. After you decide what to plant next, work the entire bed to make the soil more uniform in looseness so that roots can grow horizontally.

Hope this helps.

Thanks!

Do we need to hire a professional, or are these small enough that we don't need to worry about them falling over on the house? Well, mainly that big one on the left...

Thanks...

It does not appear to be so big that you could not fell it yourself, but you know your physical abilities better than I know them. If you have a step ladder, just lop off the top of the large one to make it manageable or tie a rope to it an put a tad of pull on it to pull it away from the house when you fell it.

Hope this helps.

I just saw a tree stump/root removal product in home depot yesterday. It was in pellet form. No cutting required, but it does need some drilling done. It uses the trees system of bringing nutrients from inside down to the roots. Once the tree is cut and there is only the stump left, you're supposed to drill some holes into the stump, put the stump killing pellets inside the holes, pour warm water into the hole and then just wait. I wish I noticed the name, but perhaps if you look in home depot you will find it. It was by the weed and insect killing section.

There are a variety of stump rot products available. These should be applied immediately after cutting. Ideally stumps should be ground or dug out.
