Ground cover in the garden?

Get rid of one problem start another situation.
Ground cover fabric, I have a ton of it, first rolls I bought at Lowe's, then I found a "Lot" at a yard sale!
If I clear all of the weeds completely out of the "Garden Plot", and, the plants are up at least 4-5 inches is there any problem with laying down the fabric, then the "Drip hose" up and down the rows, and then a layer of straw to cover up everything, about 4-5 inches.
Looking for holes in my ideas, so blast away.

Sounds like a plan. You will keep out the weeds and the straw mulch will conserve moisture and keep roots cool.

Good, as soon as my neighbor cuts his wheat I can get the straw and do it.
Thanks
