Is it too late in the year to transplant?

I'm doing some lawn renovating and would like to move some perenial creeping phlox. I live in the midwest near lake Michigan. It won't get cold here until mid october at the earliest. Is it too late to transplant?

You can move it, but move as much of the root ball as possible and keep it watered.
