Apricot Tree Pruning~When?

I planted couple of apricot trees this year. They are doing great, but have a lot of branches on the lower part of the plant.
When can I prune these to shape the tree? After the leaves fall?

The best time to prune fruit trees in general is in the dead of winter when you know that they are domant. Actually, after leaf fall is fine. You just don't want to encourage any new growth with frost around the corner.
