Stunting Peonies?

Hello
We have white peonies in our front yard that grows really well. The only problem is the blossoms are to big for it and every stalk droops over. We have tried cages but it still droops. Is there a way to stunt its growth so it doesnt grow so large? Its really almost pointless to have it if it lays on the ground. Any help with this problem would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know the answer to your question, but I can give you a tip to help your search.

The correct spelling is peony (plural peonies).

Maybe you can use stakes?

That was a thought but there is about thirty to forty stalks so I was hoping to find a different option.

Wow...cut them and use them in the house in a vase.

Not a pro but I've read excessive sandy soil can stunt it's growth.

The large, heavy peony blossoms, especially after it rains, are a challenge for its thin, supple stems to support. Many opt to tie or cage the plants.

One way to support peonies is to lay a flat piece (2'x2') of chicken wire over new shoots as they emerge from soil in spring. Adjust wire so that one shoot emerges through one cell of the wire. As the shoots grow taller, the wire moves upward as part of the plant and is hidden by the foliage. Any exposed edges can be folded down.
