pruning in the summer

Hi - The suckers on my apple tree are starting to block the sun to my garden. I know from experience that these suckers will get a lot taller, like 5 and 6 feet before fall. Will it hurt the tree to prune some of these off in the summer?

thanks

Apple trees are best pruned when dormant. Summer pruning of new suckers should have little impact on tree. Learn more about apple tree summer pruning at http://www.cahe.nmsu.edu/pubs/_h/h-312.html
