I don't know what this plant is

I hope I am in the right board, I aquired this plant from a dear friend's funeral, the family wanted me to have it. I need to know what it is so I can look up care instructions, I have seen them before but I can't find it on the internet. Any tips on care would be appreciated also, thanks!

Sorry abut your friend...

and...welcome to the forum

This is the Mauna Loa (Peace Lily or aka Closet plant).

It requires little light and does not require a lot of water. Keep soil slightly moist and mist occastionally. Do NOT over water. Water only when the soil starts to dry out. It likes dryer conditions. Keeping it humid will encourage it to bloom. Keep it in a room at 65 degrees or above.

What a lovely plant! As indicated, it's great for low-light locations and works great in offices and rooms without direct light. Go easy on the water. Most folks tend to overwater and leaves start to turn brown.

Hi Chipfo,

Sorry to hear of your loss. This site should be helpful too.

Thank you very much for your replies! This has helped me out very much, when I placed it in direct sunlight it wilted even though I kept it watered. Thanks again!

DIYaddict, your signature reminds me of a saying my father likes to repeat - "If your in a hurry, slow down, because you don't have time to do it again"

Thanks again - Chip
